Total & successive years with Grand Slam titles

The table & graph below show each player's titles per year since his first Grand Slam title. Sampras clearly enjoyed the longest slam career : 13 years between his first (1990) and his last (2002) US Open title. In between, he collected (a) Grand Slam title(s) in 10 different years. Since Roland Garros 2014, Nadal is the first player to win a Grand Slam title in 10 successive years.

Total years with Grand Slam titles

Sampras and Nadal enjoyed the most years with Grand Slam titles. Federer is one year short of their 10 years. Federer owns one more year than Borg. Agassi won at least one Grand Slam title in seven different years. Edberg and Lendl have been winning Grand Slams in six different years, leaving McEnroe, Becker and Connors -each with five years- behind. Wilander closes this list with less than half of Sampras' Grand Slam years.

Blank boxes show the years after 2014 (for Djokovic, Nadal and Federer), or the years after retirement (for Borg, Lendl and Edberg).

Successive years

As Nadal succesully defended his French Open title in 2014, he now is the first player to win a Grand Slam title for 10 successive years. Courtesy of his 2013 Roland Garros title, Nadal was already the first player with 9 successive years of Grand Slam titles.

In 2011, Federer suffered a year without Grand Slam title, which leaves him stuck at 8 successive years of Grand Slam success(es), tying Borg and Sampras. Sampras is the only of the four who suffered a few slam-less years after his first Grand Slam title.

Lendl won a Slam for four consecutive years, McEnroe, Agassi & Edberg enjoyed three straight years with one (or more) slam title(s) 1. Wilander, Connors and Becker had a maximum of two successive years with Grand Slam titles, as did Kuerten, Courier, Vilas...

Only seven players confirmed their first Grand Slam victory in the year after their first Grand Slam title.

Grand Slam titles per year

This graph clearly shows the seven peaks of three Grand Slam titles in one year :

Notes

1 Edberg had two series of three years in a row with Grand Slam titles, interrupted in 1989. McEnroe and Agassi each had a three years streak + another two consecutive years.

2 Vilas is since 1974 the only other player who won two Grand Slam finals in his first year of Grand Slam victories.
